7/12/08 NPC Bodybuilding Show
Dan Swart, a proud member of OBB, competed in the Southern States bodybuilding show this past weekend in Ft. Lauderdale. Dan cut from 280 all the way down to 196 over a 6 month period. He did a great job with his posing routine and seemed proud of his accomplishment. Congratulations Dan!

Thanks and Congrats to everyone involved!
The OBB Team headed to nearby Zephyrhills to compete in a local meet and have some fun. It’s rare that so many of us can just make a local trip and compete together so I’m glad we did. I didn’t realize how involved in the meet we’d become, since we ended up having to provide spotters, loaders, equipment, occasional judges, as well as a good portion of the lifters for the meet. Overall, everyone had a good day, so it was definitely worth it.
The battle between Kalin Chester and John Land in the 181s was as exciting as expected. They were neck and neck throughout with Kalin squatting 640 to John’s 630, benching 560 to John’s 540 and pulling 455 for a 1655 taking the lead over John’s pull of 450 for a 1620 total.
My long time training partner, 50 year old Greg Godwin, competed in the 198 open and had a great day. He squatted 675, benched 405, and deadlifted 545 for a more than 100 lb. PR total!
Tom Walyus competed in the open 198s as well but was unable to complete his 665 squat opener. Since the APA has an Ironman competition he was able to finish the meet with a PR 425 bench and a big PR 600 pull to take the Ironman best lifter!
51 year old Jim Lynch made it a family event where he competed alongside his sons, 14 year old Shelby and 17 year old Ray. Jim competed in the open 198s as well where he squatted 525, benched 315, and pulled 525 for a respectable 1365 total. Shelby looks like he’s always having fun and was content with a 185 bench in the teen 198 class. Ray took the platform by storm where he squatted 505, benched 225, and pulled a World Record 537 for a 1267 total.
Kenny Riddle is sticking with lifting raw for now and put up some very impressive numbers in the Junior 181s. He squatted 450, benched 285, and pulled 520 for a solid 1255 total and best lifter in the Raw Division.
Sam Wahnish was competing in his first full meet in the Junior 148s where he squatted a solid 460 but was unable to complete any of his 340 bench attempts. He’s still learning the equipment and I’m sure will be back on the platform soon.
I ended the day with a 775 lb Squat, good for an APA WR, 565 lb Bench, good for a APA WR and a 610 lb deadlift. Good for a PR and APA WR total of 1950! Although it would have been nice to get the 2020 total from the lifts I missed, this was a good training meet for me and I'm happy with my total PR. Thanks again to everyone for their help.
